Review of Saw III (2006) by Kyler D — 12 Jun 2011
Good: Gorey, good ending plot twister.
Bad: Slow, monotonous, thin plotline.
Jigsaw(Toben Bell) is a serial killer that traps people that he believes have wronged in life in sadistic puzzles, most of which force the victim to sacrifice a piece of their body to escape with their lives. The movie is extremely gory, at moments making you cringe as the hostage breaks, cuts, and rips at themselves. This is a movie that in theory sounds really good, it questions a man's morals on vengance. But when actually watching the movie it is quite obvious it does not work when not in theory. The plot of the cinema is extremely thin, it seems like the writers just wrote in the script "Please help me, -screams in pain, then futiley tries to get out and gore goes everywhere." It is also extremely predictable, I could call almost everything that happened before it did. The beginning of the movie starts off much like 1000 Ways To Die, except with much more gore. It is just a slideshow of people dieing in disgusting ways. This at first somewhat fun to watch. But soon enough, much like 1000 Ways To Die, it gets really slow and boring. Then they get to the main trap sets, which made the movie more exciting. One problem I noticed is that Jigsaw takes care to put hood on when setting the traps with victims nearby, but then puts his fingers all over devices and people, like the authorities would not check for his fingerprints. Then the trap Amanda was put in in the past is really stupid, she has to dig through dead cell mate to save her life. That is nothing compared to doing something like smashing your foot off to survive. At one point it shows Jigsaw standing up in the past, I really doubt a terminal cancer patient on the verge of death is going to be walking around this death factory he has. setting up traps. The ending of the movie is a huge plot twister, revealing things that you before did not know. This was a good ending, but even with this "surprise" ending there were parts I had already predicted! The rest of the things that I had not predicted were not enough to leave me stunned. It was not worth sitting in front of a computer for two hours just to see the surprise ending. The movie did not leave me with that feeling of being scared of the boogie man under my bed after I watch the movie, I've almost completely forgotten about it.
