Review of Saw III (2006) by Brandon V — 03 Apr 2012
It's superior to both of its predecessors, yes, even the first one, even if not by much. That's largely due to the fascinating dynamics going on between the Jigsaw and Amanda characters. Also, it's ridiculously more watchable than part 2, which was a very distressing experience overall.
Part of what held that film back was the brutal, ugly situations the characters were in that simply weren't effective because we knew exactly how each individual trap and event would pan out. Here, there's more mystery, more suspense, and just more fun in general.
It has a few flaws, mainly in some stiff dialogue, but still is excellent horror with the best twist ending of the trilogy.
