Happy fuckin' Christmas, everybody. Laura Linney and Philip Seymour Hoffman are two miserable writers spending most of the film going nowhere fast. Throw in your usual 'dying-parent-who-wasn't-all-that-nice-in-the-first-place' sub-plot that pulls them back together, and viola! Linney and Hoffman are pretty amazing actors, and they're what really makes 'The Savages' worth checking into.
