Fellini at the beginning of his "Faces Period": Ancient Roman faces. Pictoresque faces. Gay faces.
I read Antonioni's Red Desert persuaded Fellini to start using colour film. And you really can tell it's not just a shift from b/w to colour. Key colours.
And I think Satyricon has and shows off Fellini's highest genius as well.
