Review of Satyricon (1969) by Andy S — 03 Dec 2017
I can't even believe the amazing set pieces in this movie. It almost seems like it's from a dream or something, The cinematography is wonderful. The colors are beautiful to look at as they pop onto the screen filling the scenes with life.
Holy shit man, that first girl in the yellow dress who licked her lips... Oh my god. What a freaking beauty!
There are so many different actors in this movie, its impossible to count them. The acts of randomness in this movie from it's characters are hilarious. It almost makes you wonder whether they were scripted some of them or improvised. What's so amazing is that Fellini found and cast a guy that has no limbs. No fucking limbs! The job he did at casting for this movie is insane. In the best way. Some of the actors have very dramatic faces. Terrifying faces you don't see in your soap operas.
This is sort of the nightmarish world we'd be living in today if there we're no rules and anything goes. Fellini does a brilliant job at painting that idea and feeling. The way some of the characters just blankly stare into the camera is something very creepy. It's something your not really used to in movies and Fellini definitely uses it to his advantage in this movie. That being said, this is a movie you definitely might want to watch sober.
It's also amazing to see where one of my favorite artists, Bonobo, got a sample he used for his song 'Ketto'. This movie has some really great ideas for songs or at least samples that can be used.
The only quarrel I have with this movie is that it almost seems like it has no plot. It follows the one blonde headed kid, but it seems like it jumps all around into other people's lives when they probably aren't relevant to the kid's life. Other than that, fantastically creepy and psychedelic movie!
Overall, crazy and psychedelic movie. Everything is marvelous. Another Fellini movie I will definitely be buying.
