Review of Saturday Night Fever (1977) by Pascal V — 28 Mar 2011
Some impressive dance segments aside, I found the film to be overall pretty stupid. Bad editing and annoying characters bothered me throughout the movie, and story wise the movie didn't appear to really go anywhere.
While on paper the main character grows from his experiences, the film sort of glosses over it and doesn't make it as powerful as it should be. And while this isn't a criticism of the film itself, it ended really abruptly.
I felt like it got to the end of the second act and then just ended. Overall, I did not like this movie. I thought it was kind of dumb, and that may be mostly a personal thing, although it is certainly technically lacking.
The fact that it was such a huge success frankly vexes me.
