Review of Saturday Night Fever (1977) by Mitch A — 15 Jan 2013
I wish I could dance like Travolta. Believe it or not this is one of my faves. Maybe it was catching it many many moons ago and liking it immeditately as Travolta is walking down the street to Staying Alive.
The music is kind of a mixed bag but it works here. Never will the Bee Gees ever come close to mattering like they do here..from Night Fever to More Than a Woman...Rod Eckrich is also a big fan of the Disco version of Beethoven's fifth.
.Even though the scene is long dead, I would imagine this is what it feels like to go to one of those clubs. I'm willing to bet that nobody was as cool or danced like Travolta though. Just about everything here is classic.
.you've got the priest brother going through a crisis, father punching hair at the dinner table, and some of the coolest dancing that those nerds and strokers from High School Musical and those lame dance movies will never reach.
It is a shame that Travolta is so hit and miss..I mean a few hits and a stream of crap.
