Review of San Andreas (2015) by Andy H — 29 Jul 2017
Fantastic special effects and impressive but implausible set pieces help raise San Andreas above the average Hollywood disaster movie. Although that's not saying much.
Unfortunately, a cookie cutter plot and set of characters get in the way of any enjoyment. Are writers of disaster movies not capable of coming up with a set of characters beyond the typical man, his kids, his ex-wife (with whom he inevitably gets back together with) and her current (and soon to be dead) boyfriend? The characters are so generic that it's hard to care about the perils they face and this is made even worse as you can tell who will survive and who will die from the opening scenes. Oh well, at least it's better than the abomination that is 2012.
