Safety Not Guaranteed is nothing short of a surprise, and that's coming from somebody with high expectations walking into this film. From its opening scene to its unexpected climax, it manages to be smart, witty, consistently humorous, and oddly sweet in an off-beat manner, while also proving once again that the romantic comedy genre can still be fun and original, while demonstrating heart without any sap.
