Review of Safety Last! (1923) by Mike M — 10 Aug 2009
Harold Lloyd stands as one of the fathers of screen comedy, shoulder to shoulder with Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin. His most famous silent film, 'Safety Last' is a wonderful example of 'stunt comedy' wherein much of the humor and story comes from dangerous situations, most famously, Harold climbing up the side of a towering skyscraper with just his bare hands. I particularly liked the scene where Harold and his roommate, 'Limpy Bill', put on their overcoats, jump onto the coat hooks and pull up their legs, to hide from the rent-demanding landlady.
A wonderful gem.
