Review of Ryan's Daughter (1970) by Lucas T — 22 Mar 2008
There are not enough words to decribe the brilliance of David Lean and Freddie Young on their work on Ryan's Daughter. Although I concede a few flaws exist, like the laborious pacing and the elaborate love scene which is out of place in a Lean film, the breathtaking cinematography fills in all the gaps.
We come to expect this kind of pacing in a Lean film, who, in my opinion, is the greatest director ever, and I actually feel it is necessay to convey the immediacy and poignancy of the plot and its' characters.
Vastly underrated and wrongly crushed by the media and critics, this epic tale of juvinile love and lust should no doubt be included in the pantheon of all time greats.
