Review of Rust and Bone (2012) by Joe H — 04 Apr 2015
Wow! Great foreign film with lots of surprises! If you go off of just the trailer, there is so much more to the story worth watching it unfold.
Marion gives a great performance but not to be out shined is her co-star Mathias who gives another brilliant performance right after his incredible turn in "Bullhead" (which is an amazing movie)!
This movie has some great turns that are unexpected while dealing with the human condition and how people feel and react. It's great. It's not just about an absent single father and an amputee whale trainer, it's a love story and great character study on survival - whether it's learning to get around due to a physical handicap or just trying to make ends meet from day-to-day.
As a parent you will be shocked and horrified and want to desperate try to help him, but the whole time you know he is doing the best he can even if it isn't good enough.
Life is hard. We are all dealt a hand and we are given bad cards when he ask for a "hit" but sometimes that hit me is literal.
