Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Rodrigo R — 12 Apr 2008
A great show of technical achievement, this film drifts for over 90 minutes through St Petersburg's State Heritage Museum in one shot. No editing, no cuts, and a LOT of extras set up and ready through a route over 1km long.
A dreamlike tour of the museum describes to us its cultural and historical significance through two characters.
Originally a documentary, the film is fascinating but can easily lose casual film goers with a deep meaning rather than story or plot.
Historians, art and film critics/admirers need apply.
