Review of Russian Ark (2002) by Aditya M — 23 Jul 2015
An amazing achievement. An ambitious 96 minute continuous steadicam shot, Russian Ark is filmed in a Russian museum taking us through time, art, and Russian history . Ebert, as he often does, nailed it when he said "Apart from anything else, this is one of the best-sustained ideas I have ever seen on the screen.
" I'll add that the directors along with Dreyden's effort, is some of the best work I've seen on screen, given the time constraints. I did not follow at times and some of the symbolism went over my head but that didn't seem to matter, watching this was a dizzying, dreamlike experience.
I won't forget that.
