Review of Runaway Bride (1999) by Rich G — 06 Sep 2009
This is one of those cliche romantic comedies that you could watch over and over again. I like Gary Marshall films, there always very sweet and they normally pair up the two most unusual people, character wise, not actor wise. The chemistry between Roberts, and Gere is slightly off, but its still a sweet attempt with some laughs along the way.
This is all about a women(Roberts, obviously) who has a problem with marriage, I wont get into detail cause I dont want to spoil it. Every time she gets engaged she always leaves her soon to be hubby at the alter dazed and confused.
Then there is the man(Gere) who is a big shot journalist who scoops a story on the "runaway bride" and gets fired from his job because he doesnt get his facts right. So, he goes to find Roberts to get his facts right.
All in all its a predictable movie that you could probably tell the ending just by looking at the poster. Cliche isnt necesarily bad if its done tastefully. A romantic comedy that is sheer delight and has wonderful performances from its entire cast.
