Calvin dreams of the perfect girl whom he calls Ruby, he starts writing about it, and then awakes only to find Ruby in his kitchen. Beyond just being a romantic comedy, the movie also examines some profounder issues that go to the very nature of free will.
And it is an intriguing premise and there is an impressive support cast, such as Elliot Could as Calvin's shrink, however, Annette Bening and Antonio Banderas are wasted as caricature parents similar to Barbara Streisand and Dustin Hoffman's characters in "Meet the Parents.
".
