Because it was made to (almost) look like it was shot in one take makes it feel like you are there in the room with them. The cuts are pretty obvious but at the time I'm sure it was pretty genius. It was the perfect length too.
Any longer than 80 minutes and I'm afraid it might have become boring. Jimmy Stewart gave a great performance.
