Review of Rope (1948) by Nathan C — 16 Nov 2009
The technecality of the filming alone makes this a film worth seeing at least once. Long takes are never easy to do, especially with such large video cameras.
Acting by the main leads is great, with nice humor and interplay, and the lack of cuts makes one feel you actually are watching a film from beginning to end in real time, much like 12 Angry Men.
If there is one thing I wish, however, is that like some of the commenters in the special features said, the film could be greatly improved by never showing the actual murder on screen and make viewers doubt what is or isn't in the chest the entire film. That would've made the suspense even greater in several scenes and probably make for a better film.
Still, a great work by a fantastic director.
