Review of Rope (1948) by Ivan M — 27 Apr 2012
The film starts with the murder, so the surprise shan't be found in the 'whodunit'. Also, the surprise shan't be found in the 'will someone find it all out'; of course someone will put it all together!
No, the real surprise is in all them innuendos that are laying like Easter eggs throughout the entire film; some are very obvious and almost in plain sight, but others are rather hard(er) to find. I reckon one can create an entire study around this film - from the homosexual themes to the Ubermensch theory and from the way of filming to the dialogues - but this film is, in retrospect, one of the finest things that the cinematic world has given us.
