Review of Room (2015) by Lucas Y — 27 Apr 2016
Overall I feel Room is overrated. The first half of the film is fantastic. Brie Larson definitely earned all the praise for her performance. Jacob Tremblay seemed like he was made for the role. How he didn't get a Supporting Actor nod over a character Stallone could play in his sleep shocks me.
The "room" scenes are very well crafted and brutal (in a good way) to watch. The escape scene is amazing, but rather unbelievable. How did Larson's character know old Nick drove a pickup truck 7-years after she was captured which would've been the ONLY way he could escape? From then on the film relies completely on Larson's acting to overshadow the stretched out PTSD scenes.
It's nauseating and predictable.
