Review of Room (2015) by Keith H — 29 Apr 2016
An unforgettable film that is so reminiscent of the actual kidnapping of Amanda Berry and her six year old daughter that it seems unbelievable that the fictional book, Room was published months before Michelle Knight, Gina DeJesus, Amanda Berry and her six year old daughter was rescued on May 6, 2013 - just before their horrific story became known.
It would take a heart of stone not to shed tears during this movie. Actress Brie Larson does an amazing job portraying a kidnapped victim who is abducted as a young teenager and made to live in an outbuilding in her captor's backyard. While held captive, she has a child named Jack. The two are never allowed to leave the "Room." The five year old boy is played brilliantly by Jacob Tremblay who deserved an Oscar for his convincing performance. Jack captures the thoughts and emotions that a young boy must feel when his whole world during the first five years of his life is confined between four walls with only a young mother's love to guide and protect him. Ma, Jack's mother, captures the boundless love of a young mother who is forced to raise a child alone under horrid conditions.
The story is one that seems to touch every emotion one can feel and makes you feel each one with painful honesty and intensity. It is not an enjoyable experience, but one you will be glad that you experienced.
