Review of Room (2015) by Roxanne D — 18 Feb 2017
This film was undeniably beautiful, but it troubled me in some ways. Joy's television interview was framed like something trying to take advantage of her, exploit her, which Brie Larson confirmed in an interview she gave about the film.
The film is suggesting that a survivor's story is definitely a product of media exploitation, and not something they would choose to do. We have to be careful to note that this film does not represent all survivors.
Sharing your story is not shameful if it is something you choose to do-not only for yourself, but for others out there who might have shared your experiences.
