Review of Room (2015) by Gretchen W — 23 Oct 2016
I watched this movie before I began my "Oscar Watch". What I do (because my opinion matters) lol. I watch all the movies to see if I agree with the nominations and winners. This year along with that there was some controversey about a snub toward Black movies and actor. Creed, Straight Out of Compton, Concussion, Chiraq and Beasts of No Nation with actors and actresses in those movies as well being snubbed. I was going to watch those movies anyway (except Chiraq I am still on the fence about watching that). I had already watched SOC. I havent watched Concussion, but I doubt seeing it would change my opinion..laughing at myself cuz people really care what I think..
I read the book first. I honestly did not care for the book very much. The movie was ok. I actually wish I would have just saw the movie and never read the book, I am sure I would I have liked the movie so much more. Watching the movie and seeing so much left out and changed effected my opinion of the movie, but I love Brie Larson and that little boy was super adorable so that made up for it.
As far as deserving a best picture nomination, I think it was chosen because of the story not the movie. It was more enjoyable than Brookyln..but it really wasn't written near as well as the other movies in this category, now was the acting half as good. Honestly Beasts of No Nation was a more interesting story and Abraham Attah out acted Brie and Jacob..so there is a snub here as far as Best Picture nomination goes.
As far as the best actress win..as I said I love Brie and I am happy she won..BUT I think Cate should have gotten I mean if we talking about pure acting skills in these two particular movies..but what else would one expect from Cate?
