Review of Romper Stomper (1992) by Michael L — 14 May 2009
Good but far from great. Crowe shows flashes of the magnetism that would later emerge in most of his characters, but I felt his role as alpha skinhead Hanno was ultimately underwritten, like every other character in the film.
The film comes most alive during a drunken and violent skinhead party with accompanying loud punk music. Other than that and a couple of fights with Asians the existence of a skinhead is portrayed as surprisingly dull. Unfortunately, that sums up the film too.
