Review of Romeo Is Bleeding (1993) by Lesley H — 14 Jul 2008
Flawed and bizarre, to be sure, but Oldman and Olin's performances more than make up for the bleak script. Very few can outdo Oldman in over-the-top exhibitions of fringe characters, but Olin pulls it off with ease.
Neo-noir? More like an homage bordering on parody: not exactly stepping into the genre, but more than indulging and partaking in its hallmarks. Why IMDb doesn't file this hidden gem under comedy is curious.
IMO, a very well-kept secret of a stylish, darkly comic crime drama. And if the end doesn't make you shed one tear, you must have a heart of stone.
