Review of Romeo Is Bleeding (1993) by Emma N — 04 Aug 2009
"Whoever you shoot, you might as well marry them because your tied to them for life. Till the end of their life or the end of yours". Psychotically brilliant to say the least. Romeo is Bleeding easily ranks up there as one of my top 50 favorite films of all time.
I hadn't seen this film siince it first was relaesed in 1994 and I was surprised at how well it stands the test of time and the result is, surprisingly well. The story is not a fast paced one and is much slower than most films.
You usually can't go wrong with Oldman, and Olin might as well be wearing Joker make-up. For me Lena Olin was the scene stealer in this film and I often wondered why I never saw much of her in film.
She was smart, sexy, and f'n MAD. The supporting cast is excellent too with Roy Scheider, Juliette Lewis, Ron Pearlman and Annabella Sciorra helping to flesh things out. If you start this film and within the first ten minutes think it isn't your thing just stick with it.
You will be pleasantly surprised.
