Review of Romance & Cigarettes (2005) by Korana K — 31 Aug 2008
What separates this from being just another movie about love, lust, and infidelity is, of course, the musical element, as well as how wonderfully over-the-top it is. In fact, during the first half of the film, which included garbage men and utility workers singing and dancing in the streets, I was sure I'd stumbled upon a hidden gem.
But as the story continues it becomes hopelessly cluttered, straightening itself out just in time for a disappointing and predictable ending. I also would have liked to see more of the crazy Christopher Walken and the lively Kate Winslet instead of the less interesting characters the movie chooses to focus on.
