Review of Romance & Cigarettes (2005) by Acacia & — 24 Apr 2010
Romance and Cigarettes is weird and not in a good way - like weirdness is the purpose of the movie and all other considerations are secondary. It was a bad idea for a movie that could only ever end badly, and it stretches the definition of "musical" by using non-original songs and having the cast sing over the top of the original recording artists' voices.
Whether this was a creative choice or a necessary mask for the lack of vocal talent in the cast, the end result is the same - it doesn't work.
