Review of Romance & Cigarettes (2005) by Stephanie B — 15 Feb 2009
This isn't your run of the mill musical, lets get that out f the way first. It's no Rodgers and Hammerstein Broadway classic. It's a completely different kind of animal entirely. It's very very funny and has some outstanding performances by actors who are clearly enjoying themselves.
Especially Kate Winslett in a lovable, slutty and foul mouthed role, she's so good. One of the best renditions of "Delilah" ive ever seen, from the always watchable Christopher Walken. If your not crying with laughter with this scene, get to the hospital quick.
Steve Buscemi as always is fantastic, the guy just has to open his mouth and I piss myself. The songs are all well chosen and performed very much tongues in cheeks all round. It's sweet, quirky and original.
Great stuff.
