Review of Romance & Cigarettes (2005) by Alex H — 13 Nov 2009
I really enjoyed Romance and Cigarettes. I have been starting to develop a little bit of a guilty pleasure for musicals, and whilst this isn't a musical in the most traditional sense, it is a really good attempt at the genre.
It's funny, moving and well acted all round. Steve Buscemi's cameo is great and Kate Winslet is shockingly good as the foul-mouthed tart who the leading dude is having an affair with. There are a fair few flaws, but the main thing is you can tell the film has got a heart behind it and was made the way it was wanted to be made, and that is why it is worth seeing.
