Review of Roger & Me (1989) by Mike H — 17 Jan 2008
Michael Moore hands Roger Smith's ass to him in this pseudodocumentary about an automobile company that downsized by 30,000 employees. The film is entertaining, eye-opening, heavily layered, terrifying, and humorous.
The only problem with judging it as a film is that it is presented as a documentary, despite the fact that a great deal of it is fake. In that sense, it fails as an informing-the-public documentary. But as a work of art, Roger & Me is a captivating, darkly humorous alternate reality.
