Review of Rocketship X-M (1950) by Dave M — 14 Sep 2005
[font=Times][color=#000000]This is not a bad space exploration film even though it is solidly embedded with the sexist ideals of the 1950s. It attempts to keep a solid foundation in real science, at least as it was understood at the time.
Between the dry acting and rather far fetched story (overshooting the moon but still enough fuel to make it to and land on Mars huh?) the film doesn?t pick itself very far over the average mark. The so-so effects and music track don?t lift it much higher either.
This could have been a good character driven film if not for the lack of drama. Although it misses its chance to be great, it still entertains, and is also funny in places (though often not intentionally).
