Review of RoboCop 2 (1990) by Rob C — 18 May 2011
While a new drug called, "Nuke", ravishes Detroit, Omni Consumer Products (OCP) plans to make the city into a new and polished environment, eradicating all the violence. However, it seems that the Detroit Police Department has gone on strike and only Alex Murphy (Peter Weller) seems to be unphased among the mayhem, going about on his regular patrol duties.
In the midst of all this, OCP is planning the development of a new Robocop, one superior to that of Alex Murphy. But this time, they decide to choose the brain of a notorious criminal rather than one like Murphy.
The sequel to Robocop is a step-up in visuals, but a step-down in the storyline department. It didn't have that edge like Robocop had and that's a real disappointment considering the epicness of the first film.
The atmosphere surrounding the film was much darker and pessimistic, but it seems they over-dramatized it too much. I understand they were going for a more chaotic film than the original, but here they came off obnoxious and overbearing; and I'm offended.
The writers should of stopped on the first film, Robocop looks forced for some reason; like he's bored. If Robocop is bored, then there's something wrong. What the hell is nuke anyway; it looks paralyzing.
