Review of RoboCop 2 (1990) by Paul H — 06 Dec 2017

I really have no idea why people are so rough on this movie. Is it as good as the first? No... but sequels rarely are. Weller of course puts on an amazing job as Robocop, as ONLY he can. The villian Cain is not only a worthy advisory to Murphy as a human, and defeats him in a way no one else ever could.

.. by chopping him up intp pieces, and taunting the police by dropping their undefeated machine on the police doorstep, and continues to try to take Robocop down after he is rebuilt, with no fear whatsoever.

Cain's God complex is played beautifully. The active rivalry between Murphy and Cain continues till the very end. And Cain is terrifying as Robocop 2, making ED 209 look like a children's toy by comparison.

The fact that RoboCain cant speak, makes him all the more terrifying because you never know if he will suddenly snap. Now, Im not saying that the film isnt without its flaws. I feel like after Murphy is reprogramed with all that nonsense, it goes on for a little too long, and it a bit too cheesy and over the top.

But I think thats what they were going for and it certainly could have been worse. I have zero complaints about Hob becoming the ringleader and drug lord after the death if Cain, after all he is a kid, hes the only one not addicted to Nuke.

.. So its only natural he would just take control. As far as Robocop showing sympathy for him during his death, after the kid was part of chopping him up? Remember Murphy was and is a father, and he well understands the influence he was under with Cain, I thought that was very clear.

And even though Hob helped chew him up, he was still a child and Robocop knew that was no life for a child, and a terrible way for a child to die. I thought the old man was great as always. I thought the mayor was waaay too over the top and anoying.

I dont see the glaring flaws that so many others do, and while the original Robocop theme was undoubtably Iconic... I do also enjoy the updated theme for the second installment. Its not a perfect film, but very few are.
