Review of Road to Perdition (2002) by Paul P — 05 Aug 2010
Watching this again recently in Hi Def, I was totally engrossed by this beautifully made film.
Time has certainly changed my perspective of this film, whilst I have always admired it, I felt a little distant towards it. Watching it now, the simplicity of the story and the absolutely beautiful cinematography by Conrad Hall, I was blown away.
Castwise, Hanks is understated and does a superb job of showing both the darkness and compassion of his character. His scenes with Newman (terrific) are just gorgeous to watch, especially the piano scene. The bigger surprise for me was Jude Law. Watching his work with fresh eyes, he is creepily good in this film, both in appearance and the phsyicality that he brings to the role.
This is a beautiful tale brought to life by a terrific cast.
