Review of Rise of the Guardians (2012) by Matthew C — 01 Jun 2013
The voice talent is there but the lines aren't. The concept is there but the story never gets off the ground. While there are some innovative moments or bursts in the movie that suggest creativity, imagination and purpose, the bulk of the plot is too heavily weighed down by distractions.
We just can't relate to these heroes and their journeys. We're never immersed but are forced instead to watch from the sidelines as these fantastical creatures struggle with existence. The ending point of the movie is incredibly laughable and I would say kids will be indifferent about this animated spiral, just because there is too much on the screen at one time and not enough happening.
