Review of Rise: Blood Hunter (2007) by Deetzie B — 17 Oct 2007

Premise:

Lucy Liu wakes up in a morgue with a tag around her toe. Confused, she kicks herself out of the metal drawer, figures out she is an undead vampire, and decides to seek revenge on the bloodsuckers that turned her.

Reality:

This is a softcore porn where Lucy Liu can't act, the vampires don't have fangs (i can see how some people might find this as cool, rather than fangs they use this little fancy knives that they keep tied around their necks--i'm a "sucker" for fangs), and the fighting scenes are weak. It is the kind of movie that goes to show that a bad script and bad directing can make even good or at least decent actors look like morons in a 6th grade play. Also, there is no fluidity between present and flashbacks; if it wasn't for Lucy Liu having longer hair in her flashbacks I would have been 100% confused throughout the entire movie. Cool parts of this movie? Lucy Liu standing in the rain covered in blood in a black bra and black jeans, a cameo from Marilyn Manson sans makeup, and a overly surprising cameo from Nick Lachey. I think this movie blew however I did not see the ending...nor do I have any desire to.
