Review of Ride with the Devil (1999) by Mark P — 30 Jul 2011
Maybe too complex for many, as the divided sympathies, personal agendas and confusion of the Missouri/Kansas border wars do cause one to wonder who was fighting whom.
I saw this as an attempt to portray realism (humor included) that so many war portrayals do not reflect. And the fact that they didnâ(TM)t rely on the standard olâ(TM) pyro-technic explosion right next to the tumbling horse to create tension let me know that this was my kind of film.
The Daniel Holt character (Jeffry Wright) stole the show at the end. Marvelous complexity.
