Review of Riddick (2013) by Daniel V — 20 May 2014

After going the more Space Opera route with lukewarm received CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK, Vin and Co. decided it was time to go back to the roots of the RIDDICK series. You know, back when it wasn't a series it was just low-budget Sci-Fi/Horror flick that was a lot of fun and sometimes genuinely scary.

Problem is, they didn't just go back to the tone of the original film, they actually just re-did the original film. Even the dude hunting Riddick is the father of the first guy hunting Riddick in PITCH BLACK.

And somehow, even though this takes place 10 years later, they cast a guy who looks to be the same age as Cole Hauser(Riddick Hunter in #1). In other words, Daddy Johns conceived Johns The Younger when he was still a sperm himself.

I did like the Universe they set up in CHRONICLES, even if that movie wasn't what it should've been, but it may be better just to leave PITCH BLACK as the standalone gem. At least the action is cool.
