Review of Revenge of the Creature (1955) by Barrett L — 06 Apr 2012
This sequel jumps right in with no time to spare with the creature battling it out with a new set of troublesome humans sent to capture it. It puts up a strong fight but a few sticks of dynamite proves to strong for the Gil-Man.
He's then whisked away to SeaWorld (This films equivalent) in Florida to become a sideshow attraction. I think this was the obvious and smart turn for this story to take. They could have easily just repeated themselves but instead took the creature in to completely new territory.
Things were very interesting, seeing him interact with people (and a hot new babe).. but then the film comes to a screeching halt as it begins to focus on a romance between the fish scientists who are studying the creature.
We see them dance, kiss, swim, kiss and kiss some more. ZZZZZzzzzz. Why did anyone think we wanted to see this romance?? I guess to make the creature later stealing her that much more horrible? Or was it simply movie padding? Either way there is half a good story here that then just turns in to lots of screaming and needless "guy at the wrong place and the wrong time" deaths.
How the hell did the creature go directly to his lady scientist's hotel? Smell? Did it imprint on her? This Gil-Man loves him some human Scientist babes for sure. In all the sequel falls far short of the first film.
An interesting set-up at the beginning sadly falls apart toward the end.. and then of course ends very abruptly (as it did in the 1st film). The Creature did look much more menacing while on land in this film as he always appeared wet and gasping for air.
I still don't want to see this guy walk around my house late at night.
