Review of Return to Oz (1985) by The Only One — 24 Apr 2010
Presumably, on a drug-induced binge, the producers of this must have watched the 1939 version of The Wizard Of Oz and thought, this movie's too cute... Let's make a sequel with a mental asylum and the kingdom of Oz in a state of disrepair, with the yellow brick road smashed to bits. Granted, I've often wondered where the red brick road leads to in the 1939 classic, but I don't know what age group or demographic this movie appeals to. It's far too dark and psychotropic for young children and too childish for adults. Personally, if I wanted to look at Oz in a different way I'd listen to Pink Floyd's Dark Side Of The Moon while watching the 1939 version.
I can't understand why this movie was made, unless it was merely a pet project for the producer's or director. The definition of misconception.
