Review of Resolution (2013) by Sara T — 31 Jan 2013
In a last ditch effort to save his friend from a terrible drug addiction, Michael forcibly handcuffs Chris to the wall of his remote cabin until the drugs can clear his system and Michael can convince Chris to enter rehab.
What Michael doesn't account for are the dark forces that are at work in the woods surrounding the cabin, forces which will not rest until Chris' story is finally told... to conclusion! Justin Benson's debut feature is as confused and irrational as its crack-addled character.
If the supernatural elements of the plot were intended as some form of morality play, their meaning must have been lost along the way. No conceivable link is ever established between Chris' addiction and the faceless evil that stalks the land.
Peter Cilella is passable as the naive do-gooder, Michael, but Vinny Curran doesn't seem to know (or care) enough about drug withdrawals to provide a believable performance. Instead, he tries to play the funny man while spouting out an endless line of profanities.
Contrary to the film's title, the audience is left with no resolution in the end, only more questions.
