Review of Resolution (2013) by Luigi C — 24 Sep 2013
What a brilliant movie. Rarely is a film capable of telling an entertaining story on a limited budget. The makers of Resolution accomplished what few others have been able to (including Swingers, Buried & The Big Kahuna). Resolution deserves to be mentioned in the same category of the above mentioned.
There is a subtle level of tension throughout the movie that slowly rises and rises. This movie does not have any blood or killings. It doesn't use any of the special effects that dominate the horror genre these days. It's a simple but chilling story that never caused me to lose my interest. Anyone expecting action and gore will be disappointed.
The supernatural aspect is present, but limited. This movie will appeal to those (including myself) who are typically not fond of the sci-fi horror flicks so prevalent these days. The ending scene was about as perfectly done as possible and was fitting considering the overall tone of the movie. Anyone who is a fan of movies with over-the-top endings - like in Signs, Jurassic Park or Cloverfield - will probably be disappointed.
Overall, I give this movie 5 stars. I'd imagine that those who are giving this 1-star or 2-stars are typically not fans of low-budget movies, especially those without heavy special effects or without heavy blood and gore.
