Review of Resident Evil: Retribution (2012) by Trevor M — 25 Jul 2013
With the action sequences often just as illogical as the plot line, this Res Evil movie is equally frustrating and embarrassing to watch even for the casual viewer.
- Details Breakdown -.
The Good: The intro to this movie is admittedly really gutsy. I do not know many movies that start off with 10 minutes of reverse slo-mo action and actually manage to do it well. If you are forced to watch this movie for some reason, watch the intro and nothing else. I am not sure if this is truly a good thing or not, but this Res Evil movie most certainly feels much more like a video game level than any other that has come before it. As always with these movies, there some interesting concepts that appear in the way that Umbrella Corp. works, being the twisted and yet intriguing company that it is.
The Bad: Knowing where to start with the bad is extremely difficult. The acting is generally awful and embarrassing, the filmmaking is heavily CGI reliant, the plot line and rules of the story world are inconsistent and illogical, and characters from previous movies are brought back, only to be brutally murdered, although we still have no reason to really care about them at all. Alice remains an illogical mystery as she is somehow invincible even without the T-Virus in her system. The most significant plot hole in the series still haunts this latest movie and it is something that really should not be ignored. Alice's blood is the only cure for the T-Virus as she was the only human to successfully bond with it (convenient for her) and it seems that all Umbrella wants to do is have her come in, take some blood, and make a cure for the world. Alice runs from them for years, brutally murders nearly all of them, and destroys their facilities. While is is Umbrella's fault for the release of the virus, essentially Alice killed the entire world for being scared of a needle. Overall, just do not watch this movie. The action is lame and the story is extremely cynical and depressing, not to mention tiresome.
