Review of Resident Evil (2002) by Alexandre H — 30 Dec 2013
I was always going to enjoy this after so many years indulging in the numerous versions of the arcade game, and it didn't disappoint. Centred around the mysterious 'Umbrella' corporation, we join the action after the deadly t-virus has wiped out the majority of the organisation, leaving only a handful of survivors, and a military infiltration team to root around the remains.
Naturally they come across all the deceased in their zombified form, as well as a mutant 'licker' that's present in several of the Playstation games. Milla Jovavich fits the lead role superbly as do many of the supporting cast who fulfil their kick ass roles to perfection.
The action is pretty good albeit a tad slow to begin with as the stage is set for the zombie pandemic to sweep in, and the story does appear a little complex at times as we gradually learn the extent of the survivors backgrounds.
These minor details aside though, the story fits in very well with the details of the video game and includes the essential elements of the vicious canines and the creation of the 'nemesis', which leads nicely on to the sequel.
In addition, It shocks us with the odd scary moment, and plenty of gory references just to ensure that lovers of the Resident Evil Franchise will not be left wanting.
