Review of Resident Evil (2002) by Lesmiserables — 09 Aug 2020
Recently I binge watched the Resident Evil movies (1-4) after many years and despite their issues I had a really nice time re watching them Sure my opinion is swayed by nostalgia quite a bit but I do find them to be quite good mindless entertainment .
The first movie is often regarded as the best due to it's somewhat more down to earth setting compared to the sequels . The setting in the underground lab is really good , the characters are endearing and it also has pretty good atmosphere and an excellent soundtrack.
On the other hand the CGI is pretty bad and the acting can be all over the place but that's part of the fun . Mila Jovovich's character Alice has gotten a lot of flak by the community over the years but I will stand by this until the end of time and say that she was pretty likable.
Sure her powers got ridiculous by the sequel and she had the plot armor of a thousand men but her personality was sweet and she was a female hero from a bygone era were you didn't have to emasculate men to appear strong .
