Review of Resident Evil (2002) by Jc E — 11 Jan 2013
When this flick first showed up (I didn't see it until a couple years later), it provided a nice little distraction from your typical zombie fare. The action was pretty good, the concept was fairly fresh, and it really wasn't a terrible video game adaptation.
Sure, there were some huge holes in the plot, the CG wasn't awesome in all places, and there was a slight underpinning of corporations being evil; but it was a passable video game movie. And it helped elevate Milla Jovovich's then rising star.
The supporting players like Michelle Rodriguez (Avatar) and James Purefoy (John Carter) weren't too bad either. It could have been much, much worse, but for a franchise starter, it wasn't bad at all.
