Review of Rescue Dawn (2007) by Lee B — 13 Jun 2010
I just dont know.....
Its very serious subject matter, with a very serious lead actor in Christian Bale but I never felt connected, almost like I was watching a documentary rather than an 'escape from torture and captivity' story. At one point (plot spoiler) Steve Zahn is decpaitated but its so laughably bad that its almost as if a group of kids got together and pretended to film someone being depacitated, awful acting, awful responses and a terrible unrealistic, headless mannequin. And the whole thing just felt so out of place with the rest of this film.
And for once I didnt find Bale convincing at any time, not as a pilot, not as a captive, not as an escapee and not as the rescued, he seems to be coasting, maybe that was why I didnt connect?
Bit rubbish overall.
