Review of Rescue Dawn (2007) by Julian T — 31 Dec 2011
Another well constructed movie with great potential that just falls flat. A compelling story taking place in a POW camp in North Vietnam, based on the experiences of real life pilot Dieter Dengler. Bale's portrail of Dengler is extremely flawed.
Projecting no emotioin, and failing all together to remind us why we should give a crap about his amoral and pompus character. The only performance worth seeing here is Steve Zahn, who turns in the role of his career.
The story itself drags like no other. It might have enough going for it to warrent an hour and twenty minutes, but instead decides to test your patience, stretching an hours worth of plot into over two.
Despite being filmed beautifully and scripted decently, I can think of about 2000 things I would rather do with my two hours.
