Review of Requiem for a Dream (2000) by Kyle S — 23 Feb 2013
Not willing to call it a masterpiece that some others have, but this is still a solid effort. The score is particularly great and the song "requiem for a dream" is used at all the right times in the film and adds to those scenes a great sense of depth and magnitude to the scenes.
The last 35 mins are particularly great I couldn't look away despite knowing the likely outcome of these characters. I found the stories of Sara Goldfarb and Harry and Marions to be the most entertaining.
Though I am very impressed with Marlon Wayans in this film he was surprisingly great. This film felt like it could have been a real life horror movie with the tone of some of the shots and I think that that is accurate considering the material.
Seeing the final effects of the varying drug use on the characters leaves you with a sense of sadness from them and pity while also fearing what might be ahead, especially for Sara and Marion.
